All you need to know about Mon Nagaland

The Mon is one of the district of Nagaland india which covers an area of 1786 Sq.km. It is bounded on the North by Assam,on the South by Tuensang District of Nagaland and to the East by Myanmar (Burma) and on the West by Tuensang and Mokokchung Districts of Nagaland. On her Northeast lies the Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh.   The altitude of Mon district headquarters is 897.64 meters above sea level.

1. According to 2011 census, the districts has 131 villages.

2. The district is home of the Konyak Nagas and it is interesting to see tattooed faces

3. The main Festivals of Konyak are Aoleang and Lao-ong Mo.

4. There are 9 Constituencies in the mon district.

5. The Main occupation of the people of Mon is agriculture.

6. The recent trend in the District is tea-cultivation by the local people. 

7. The most popularly visited village in Mon district is Longwa village because of its unique location on   
     the Burmese border. The house of the village chief lies on the border. one half of the Angh's (King)           house falls within Indian territory, whereas the other half lies under myanmar control.

8. Shangnyu village
     Ruled by the chief Angh, Shangnyu village is one of the prominent villages in Mon district. There is a        wonderful wooden monument measuring 8 feet in height and 12 feet in breadth – believed to be                constructed by heavenly angels. Carvings of human beings and other creatures are engraved on this         monument. Memorial stones are also found in front of the Angh's palace. History records that good          and friendly relationships existed between Shangnyu and Ahom Kings.

9. Early Konyaks use Log drum for variouse purposes like during festivals, the log drums were also used     as an alarm sound at the times of enemies invasion and they also used to beat the log drum as an           indication of victory.
