If we look back at the history, Nagas have been demanding for a separate state since the British rule in India. A memorandum was summited to the British government in 1929 by representative of the Nagas called “Naga Club” for constitutional reform. It was clearly stated that Naga will remain an independent nation. Mahatma Gandhi, the father of nation also stated that “Nagas have every right to be independent”. It is learn that NNC (naga national council) was formed and it was the first to negotiate with the government of India and later FGN(Federal government of Nagaland) was formed when india fails to fulfill the demand made by the NNC and later NSCN after the failed of Shillong accord
The Nagaland Assembly has also endorsed the ‘Greater Nagalim’ demand as many as five times. However, The nagas in general and NSCN/GPRN in particular remain on demanding for sovereignty till today.
